Ruben is Mariano's cousin. The Zingrods' owner's brother used be nicknamed Ruben. That "Ruben" is the owner of the Short Gap Slayers, another team in the GBUFBL. The Slayers and the Zingrods have swapped ownership of Ruben Rivera what seems like ten times, either through trades or by one team getting frustrated and releasing him and the other team picking him up from the free agent pool. The Zingrods acquired Mariano Rivera in a trade with the Slayers for Karim Garcia, who started getting a lot of media hype (and a reputation for being the same kind of head case) at about the same time as Ruben Rivera.
