Jason Isringhausen

The Zingrods have kept tabs on the comebacks of the ill-fated trio of Mets' former pitching phenoms: Paul Wilson, Bill Pulsipher and Izzy. They picked up Isringhausen shortly after he was activated during the 1999 season, assuming he would be in the rotation. Shortly thereafter, the soap opera began.

The Zingrods originally had Billy Taylor as one of their closers, and TJ Mathews as insurance in case Taylor got injured or traded.

Taylor was traded to the Mets and Izzy went to Oakland. Good for the Mets, bad for the Zingrods. Taylor would be behind Benitez and Franco for any save opportunities. The Zingrods released Taylor.

The A's preferred to let Jones blow saves instead of giving the job to Mathews, the logical successor. The Zingrods kept Mathews, since it seemed like only a matter of time before Jones wore out his welcome in the closer role.

Jones finally did lose the job, to none other than Izzy. So, instead of a starter, the Zingrods finally ended up with a closer to replace Taylor. All's well that ends well.
