This is an example of what GBUFBL old-timers back in 1996 or so used to call a "Team-2000" pick. "Team-2003" just doesn't have the same ring to it, so maybe he'll get a call-up sooner than later. Or maybe we just need to come up with a snazzier nickname for guys who are still a few years away from the big leagues.

Update 5-2-2000: The plan was to protect Gibson from the 2000 draft if he had a decent spring and looked like he might nail down a starting job. Unfortunately, the Rockies' offseason activities moved Gibson so far down the depth chart that there was no point in protecting him.
