Acquired 6-18-1998 in a trade of historic proportions with The Mudville Nine (another team in the GBUFBL) along with two other players, for Chuck Knoblauch.
Greer plays like a kamikaze in the field, which is great for Rangers fans and somewhat scary for fantasy baseball owners. You gotta love his numbers, but you're always afraid that he's gonna lose playing time to have embedded pieces of the outfield wall removed from his anatomy. Greer was born in Ft. Rucker, Alabama, also the birthplace of the Zingrods' owner's wife.
Greer's playing style is reminiscent of one of the Zingrods' owner's favorite bands, Suicidal Tendencies (whose name refers to a gonzo skater attitude, not a mental disorder). ST (who consider the biggest compliment to a new release to be "well, it's not what I expected") started out as a skate punk band, crossed over to thrash, briefly had a kind of funk-metal groove going and have recently come full-circle back to hardcore. Check 'em out if you're into that kind of thing. (What, you expected John Fogerty?)
